Markin graduated from the University of Texas San Antonio and from the University of Houston Law Center, where he focused his studies on learning the art of courtroom litigation.
Markin was born and raised in McAllen, Texas by a single mother who had migrated from Mexico to start her own business. When Markin was six years old, he fell and suffered a serious injury due to a restaurant establishment’s failure to ensure their children’s play area was safe. After spending three days in the hospital, countless medical exams, and subsequent doctor’s visits, Markin racked up an exorbitant amount of medical bills.
As is very typical with immigrants like Markin’s mother, she had no money or health insurance to pay for his injuries and was terrified of being involved in any legal proceedings. Markin’s mother tried to work with the restaurant and their insurance company, but the insurance company tried to take advantage of an unrepresented immigrant. Thankfully, Markin’s mother spoke with a personal injury attorney who explained her rights under Texas law.
Markin’s lawyer was able to recover a settlement on Markin’s behalf. Markin still has clear memories of his time spent with doctors, lawyers, and in courtrooms. Having lived through such a traumatizing experience, Markin has developed great empathy for people who have been injured by the fault of others and has focused his career on fighting for families who have gone through similar life-altering events.
With deep Mexican roots, Markin is fluent in both Spanish and English. When he is not working, Markin enjoys traveling, playing sports, and making new friends.
