Katie James has spent her entire career on one side of the courtroom: the injured client’s. She has represented thousands of injured Texans in Court against insurance companies, trucking companies, hospitals, and the corporations that would rather pay lawyers than pay people.

Most injury claims never become lawsuits. They get worked up, sent to an insurance adjuster, and negotiated. That works right up until the insurance company decides it isn’t going to pay what the case is worth—and at that point the claim needs a lawyer who will file a lawsuit.
That is when firms call Katie. Lawyers across Texas refer their clients to her when a claim needs to become a lawsuit: when the offer is insulting, when liability is disputed, or when the case simply needs to be built for trial instead of settled cheaply. Harris County Civil District Judges routinely appoint Katie as Guardian Ad Litem — the lawyer the court assigns to review and approve settlements for minor children hurt by someone else’s negligence. It is a job the court gives to attorneys it trusts to protect a child when no one else is watching. Katie has been given that responsibility again and again.
Katie has been recognized among the top lawyers in Texas.
Katie has been named to the Texas Super Lawyers list, which recognizes no more than five percent of the lawyers in the state. She is also a member of the Texas Bar College and Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, an honor extended each year to only the top one-third of one percent of State Bar of Texas members. She has served on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and she is a member of the State Bar of Texas’ Pro Bono Texas Campaign.
Katie teaches trial lawyers how to try cases.
Katie graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina and with honors from the University of Houston Law Center. Katie eventually returned to UH Law Center as an adjunct professor teaching Trial Advocacy, and she continues to give back to her alma mater by coaching the University of Houston Mock Trial Team. She spends her free hours teaching the next generation of lawyers the skill most of them will never learn on the job: how to stand up in front of a jury and win.

Katie enjoys true crime podcasts and documentaries, and she travels to Walt Disney World with her husband and daughters every chance she gets. Above all, she is a fierce believer in and defender of the 7th Amendment — the right of every American to have their case decided by a jury of their peers, not by a company’s claims department.
